Burial was in Colfax cemetery. Military rites for the WWII veteran were conducted under the auspices of Sherman-Elvin Post #96, American Legion. Mr. Flannery, father of four young children, was killed early Fri morning when the station wagon he was driving went out of control on loose gravel, rolled over on its top and caught fire. The accident occurred six miles northwest of Bad Axe on S. Pinnebog Rd, about 1/4 mile south of M-142. The fire was extinguished by volunteers from the Elkton and Bad Axe fire depts. Investigating the accident were Coroner James F Colgan, Elkton, and Troopers John Seppanen and Calvin Glassford, of Bad Axe State Police post. Born in Detroit, March 10, 1920, Mr. Flannery had lived in Bad Axe for the past 28 yrs. He was a veteran of WWII and had served as a Navy flyer from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Flannery as married to the former Agnes Wright, Bad Axe, and had been associated with her father, Fred L Wright, in the Wright Insurance agency for several years. Only recently had he purchased the business. Surviving are his widow, Agnes; four children, Maurice Joseph 10, Kitty Lawson 8, Elizabeth Ann 6, and Thomas Wright 4; his mother, Mrs. Pat Flannery Bad Axe; two brothers Delphus Flannery, Detroit and Frank Flannery, Bad Axe; and three sisters, Miss Patricia Flannery and Mrs Rodney Griggs, both of Bad Axe, and Miss Marilyn Flannery, Detroit; Additional Comments: Submitted to MIGenWeb archives 1998 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/huron/obits/f/flannery47222nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
