He was born July 1, 1927 in Port Huron, the son of the late John and Orpha (Sills) Ganhs. On September 2, 1950 Robert was united in marriage to Doris A. Essenmacher at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Port Huron. Mr. Ganhs served with the United States Marines during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Western Electric Company. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2521, American Legion Charles Hammond Post 8 and V.FW. Charles Schoor Post 796. He was a loving husband of 53 years to his wife, Doris; a loving . father to his children, Deborah (Herb) Lewis, Tim (Ellen) Ganhs, Becky (Tom) Rich, Dan (Anne Marie) Ganhs, Sarah (Gary) Strieter, and Janice Ganhs; a beloved grandfather to Zachary, Laura, Tony, and Nathan Ganhs, Danielle (Jeff) Fair, Katie (Doug) Mohr, Ian and Ariana Strieter, and Mikki Rich; a beloved great-grandfather to Christoper Rich and Baby Fair; two sisters, Julia Wedge and Mary (Zeke) Nugent; and a brother, Richard (Noreen) Ganhs. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James, John, William and Tom Ganhs; and a sister, Pheobe Cadotte. A gathering for family and friends will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m to 12 p.m. in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Funeral Liturgy begins at noon on Friday, December 5, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, with procession to St. Stephen's Catholic Church for the Funeral mass at 12:30 p.m. Father David Lesniak will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow in Ruby Cemetery, Clyde Township. Graveside military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Mr. Ganhs' grandsons, Zachary, Tony, and Nathan Ganhs, Jeff Fair, Doug Mohr, and Ian Strieter. Honorary pallbearers Will be Herb Lewis, Tom Rich, Gary Strieter, Jim Schwark and Tom Thompson. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Stephen Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
