Geiger April 1, 1909 – August 28, 2000 George J. Geiger, 91, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, August 28, 2000, in the Long Term Care Unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a short illness. Born April 1, 1909, in Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late Charles and Lena (Hessling) Geiger. George and Selma Lackowski were married June 23, 1936, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Together they farmed in Sand Beach Township all their lives. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Helena and the Men's Club. George was a lifetime farmer who enjoyed his family, farming, gardening and playing cards. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Selma Geiger of Harbor Beach; three sons, Larry Geiger and his friend, Rena Wanzer, Jim Geiger and his wife, Linda, and Dan Geiger, all of Harbor Beach; four daughters, Jean Talaski and her husband, LaVern, Arlene Cook and her husband, Tom, Cheryl Halifax and her husband, Gary, all of Harbor Beach and Barb Burkhard and her husband, Randy, of Saginaw; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Geiger and Leo Geiger and his wife, Lucille, of Harbor Beach; and three sisters, Rita Booms and her husband, Leonard, Carolyn Legault and her husband, Ray, all of Harbor Beach and Evelyn Kraft of Detroit. George was preceded in death by an infant son, David; a grandson, Jared Halifax; two great- grandchildren, Tiffany and Matthew Talaski; a brother, Norman Geiger; and a sister, Emma Gentner. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2000, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena with the Rev. John Weiss, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Rapson, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Men's Club rosary will take place at 8 p.m. tonight, and a parish vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, both at Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
