(Guitar) Geiger, 65, longtime resident of Richmond, Kentucky, originally a resident of Ruth, passed away October 23, 2010, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky, following a long illness. Cheryl was recognized as an accomplished English instructor having taught English, Literature and Composition at the University of Kentucky, Morehead State University and Eastern Kentucky University. Cheryl received a kidney transplant on September 24, 1993 for which she and her family were truly grateful. Cheryl quickly became an advocate for all transplant recipients. Cheryl and her husband Bob traveled to Washington D.C. and lobbied Senators and Congressmen for improvements and changes in transplant regulations. Cheryl believed in educating the public on the importance of making known ones wishes concerning organ and tissue donation before a person’s untimely passing. Cheryl represented Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) by speaking to many civic organizations and speaking at health fairs regarding the importance of organ donation. She served on the board of the Kidney Foundation of Central Kentucky for many years and was president from 2002- 2003. In addition to Cheryl’s devotion to educating the public, she took part in a video called The Gift which was made with the collaborative efforts of Pattie A. Clay Hospital and KODA. The video produced continues to bring donor awareness to high school students and other general audiences. KODA is currently filming another video. Cheryl is survived by her loving husband Bob and two children, Kim (Ray) Otero of Union, Kentucky, and Steve (Julie) Geiger of Keller, Texas; four grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew Otero and Hope and Zachary Geiger. She is also survived by her brother, William (Sylvia) Guitar of Warren; and sisters Marjorie (Chet) Roggenbuck of Roseville, and Rita (Bernard preceded in death) Pawlowski of Warren; and by 23 nieces and nephews. Cheryl’s mother, Hazel M. Guitar, preceded her in death on July 13, 2010, at age 98. Pall bearers were Robert A Lilly, Sam LaBarbera, Ewell T Cobb, Oliver J Ramsey, Nathan R Otero and Matthew Otero. A Funeral Mass was conducted on Oct. 27, 2010 at St. Mark’s. Internment was in the Richmond Cemetery (606 East Main Street Richmond, KY 40475-1652) . In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to: KODA, 2201 Regency Road, Ste 601, Lexington, KY 40503- 2342. Other donations can be made to St. Mark Catholic Church or School 608 W.
