He was born May 29, 1940 in Harbor Beach, son of the late Norman and Margaret (Booms) Geiger. He married the love of his life, Joyce Essenmacher, on June 17, 1961 in Harbor Beach, Michigan. John is survived by his wife, Joyce Geiger, of 60 years. His children, Bruce (Vicki) Geiger of Bad Axe, Joe Geiger of Bad Axe, David (Denise) Geiger of Lake Orion, Mary (Howard) Jurges of Ubly, Betty (Dan) Rutkowski of Midland, Matthew (Charlene) Geiger of Saginaw, Cindy (Robert) Abraham of Auburn and John (Jenny) Geiger of Caro. His 36 grandchildren Tim (Stephanie) Geiger of Bad Axe, Wendy (David) Smith of Bad Axe, Derek Geiger and Mackenzie of Caro, Jonathon Geiger of Ruth, Kyle (Lindsey) Lester of Arizona, Mariah Teeple of Sault Ste. Marie, Jessica (Ryan) Dallas of Freeland, Joshua Geiger of Bad Axe, Joel Geiger of Bad Axe, Justin (Ashley) Geiger of Bad Axe, Nicholas (Kayla) Geiger of Harbor Beach, Julia (Zac) Peruski of Ubly, Danielle (Justin) Nielson of Pontiac, Kristina (Ryan) Baker of Troy, Devin (Ashley) Geiger of Howell, Alexandra Geiger of Lake Orion, Shane Geiger of Lake Orion, Ashley (Douglas) Lacy of Bad Axe, Brittany (Randy) Razo of Bad Axe, Chanda (Jesse) Lampela of Bad Axe, Kenneth Jurges of Ubly, Dakota (Anna) Rutkowski of Midland, Quin Rutkowski of North Carolina, Hunter Rutkowski and Brii of Midland, Brett Rutkowski of Midland, Madison, Mallory, and Connor Geiger of Saginaw, Clara, Isabelle, Luke, and Eva Abraham of Auburn, Mekenna Geiger of Mt. Pleasant, Gwenyth, Normandy, and Jack Geiger of Caro. John is also survived by his 25 great grandchildren with 3 more on the way. He is also survived by his siblings Carol (the late Jim) Mazure, Bob (Donna) Geiger, the late Linda (Bill) White, Harvey (the late Rosemarie) Geiger, Peggy (Ken) Weber, Paulette (Paul) Wehner, Warren (Barb) Geiger, Della (Don) Wolschlager, Nona (Dennis) Parak, Julie (Dave) Messing, the late Leslie Geiger, the late Melvin & Bea Essenmacher, the late Albert & Mert Essenmacher, the late Jerome & Norma Essenmacher, the late Richard & Evelyn Essenmacher, the late Genny & Ken Wrubel and Pat (the late Floyd) Essenmacher. John was preceded in death by his parents Norman & Margaret (Ed Maurer) Geiger, George J. & Clara Essenmacher, daughter in law Kelley Geiger, and great granddaughter Lennon Lester. John was a life-long rural resident and farmer of the Rapson area. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He graduated from OLLH High School in 1958. He volunteered in the military in 1958 and was stationed in Worms, Germany. He was a K of C Member for 49 years and served on numerous boards during his farming career. John had a passion for building and built many barns, sheds, and remodeled houses. He built his final home "The Cabin in the Woods". During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He helped his wife make homemade bread and tied many fleece blanket gifts. John was certain that he made and gave over 200 blankets away. Bid Euchre was a favorite past time of John's as he was a bidder to a fault. John enjoyed giving gator/tractor rides to his grandkids and teasing anyone who would listen. John and his wife enjoyed many vacations in Florida, California, Arizona, Nevada, and northern Michigan with family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 11 am at St. Hubert Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. Officiating will be Fr. T.J. Fleming. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 4 – 8 pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe or Thursday at the church from 10 am until the service time at 11 am. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be offered on Wednesday at 7:30 pm followed by a scripture service, both at the funeral home. Published by Huron Daily Tribune on May 16, 2022.
