Doreen Kay (Gottschalk) Genis
May 14, 1955 - April 30, 2005
Mrs. Doreen Kay Genis, 49, of Harbor Beach passed away unexpectedly Saturday, 
April 30, 2005, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.   She was born May 14, 
1955, in Bad Axe to Charles and Lillian (Krinkie) Gottschalk. She married 
Ronald Genis on July 7, 1973, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Kinde.   Doreen 
lived in the Helena area for 31 years.  She was employed at Opticare Vision 
Center in Bad Axe.  She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic 
Church in Harbor Beach and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena.  She loved 
her pets Gizmo, Sable, Shadow, and Kallie.  She enjoyed quilting and crafts, 
computer games, bingo, camping with her family, and riding motorcycles with her 
husband. 
Doreen is survived by her husband, Ronald, of Harbor Beach; her children: 
Robert Genis of Macomb Township, Rebecca Hartz and her husband, Barry, of 
Macomb Township, and Ryan Genis of Novi; her parents: Charles and Lillian 
Gottschalk of Kinde; two brothers: Ronald Gottschalk and his wife, Mary, of 
Port Austin, and Duane Gottschalk and his wife, Margie, of Mt. Pleasant; mother-
in-law, Lauretta Gusa of Harbor Beach; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph and 
Maureen McCrandall of Burton, Earl and Nancy Gusa of Detroit, Dan and Sharon 
Bischer of Harbor Beach, John and Lois Genis of Harbor Beach, and Jim and Diane 
Genis of Yale; and several nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: John and Lena Gottschalk, and 
Anthony and Martha Krinkie; father-in-law, James Gusa; and brother-in-law, 
Larry Gusa. 
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Our 
Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, 
pastor, will preside. Burial will be in the church cemetery.   Visitation will 
be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Zinger-
Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at 
the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the 
funeral home.
