He was born on January 2, 1935 in Harbor Beach to George and Lorreta (Hattie) Gentner. Dick enjoyed bowling and playing euchre. He was known for his knack for fixing anything and enjoyed teasing his grandkids and great-grandkids. A memorable part of his life was learning to read at the age of 83. Dick was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He married Virginia Lemanski on September 28, 1957. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia (Virg-Ginna) Lemanski; his children, Carol Septer, Jayne Halter, Jeff (Shelley) and daughter-in-law, Karen Gentner. He has nine grandchildren and one bonus grandchild. He also has 11 great-grandchildren and three bonus great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Willis Gentner, Donna Apisa, Barbara Mausolf Gentner and sisters-in- law, Shirley Guza, Marge (Dan) Booms, Betty (Carl) Durr, and Sue Lemanski. His godchildren are Kyle Wolowiec, Jodie Holdwick, Steve Guza, Pam Houtz, and Greg Phillips. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Perry and son-in-law, Thomas Septer; his siblings, Annie Phillips, Jack, Dale, and JoAnn Learman; and brothers-in-law, Cletus Guza and Randy Lemanski. He was also preceded by his godchildren, Scott Booms and Kenny Phillip; nephew, Dan Booms as well as his in-laws, Fabian and Leona Lemanski. Dick has donated his body to the University of MI for science research. A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ubly, on Friday, November 28. Visitation will be at the church at 10 a.m. and a memorial mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Kumar officiating. There will be a luncheon at St. John’s Parish center following the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s research. Messages of condolences may be sent to Virginia Gentner at Meadow Lanes, 150 Meadow Lane, Bad Axe, MI 48413.
