Glaza November 21, 1931 – March 21, 2009 Mr. Walter J. Glaza, 77, of Austin Township and Bad Axe passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 at his residence of an apparent heart attack. He was born November 21, 1931 in Harbor Beach to the late John and Gertrude (Peyerk) Glaza. He married Delores Szymanski on May 9, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Detroit. Walter graduated from the Filmore Rural School. He worked for and retired from Ford Motor Company. He and his wife moved to the Ubly area in 1972. He was a former member of the Thumb Rose Society. He was a current parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Walter was a veteran of the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifelong member of the Parisville VFW Post No. 5740. He loved gardening, bird watching, antique cars, taking trips to the casinos and spending time with his grandchildren. Walter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores, of Austin Township; one daughter, Sandra Grifka and her husband, Donald, of Bad Axe; two sons: Kenneth Glaza and his wife, Shirley, of Decker; Mark Glaza and his wife, Tammy, of Ubly; six grandchildren: Lisa Glaza and her special friend, Chad, Jason Glaza and his wife, Amber, Justin Grifka and his wife, Kayla, Lindsay and Chelsea Grifka, Jeffery Glaza and his special friend, Kristy; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Rose Glaza; one brother, Roman Glaza and his wife, Lucille, of Ubly. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Grace Kosal and her husband, Leo, Susie Grifka and her husband, Art, Beatrice Sobczak and her husband, Leonard, Edna Fisher and her husband, Clements. The funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly, will officiate. Private burial will be in the St. John Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
