Glaza, 64, of Ubly, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center of Saginaw after a long illness. Cliff was born Jan. 11, 1950, in Bad Axe, son of Arline (Pulcer) Symons and the late Stanley Glaza. He married Barbara Alent, Sept. 11, 1982, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. Cliff was a graduate of Ubly High School and proudly served his country after being drafted by the Army in August 1969, and then sent to Vietnam in early 1970. After returning from the service, he attended mechanic’s school and began a career in automotive repair. He worked for Goodyear in Madison Heights for several years before returning to Ubly, where Cliff owned the Glaza Boron Station. After several years of business ownership, he returned to his career with Goodyear in Livonia and Midland for the next 13 years. After retiring from Goodyear, Cliff returned to Ubly again and worked for Chinoski Construction of Ubly, until he fully retired in 2011. Cliff was a member of the Ubly Thumb Veterans Organization Post No. 1. Cliff was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He truly enjoyed attending his sons’ sporting events. He enjoyed playing golf. Cliff especially enjoyed pheasant hunting trips with his brothers Gary and David, along with many other hunting excursions with family and friends. Cars were his passion, and he loved to talk about them any time he could. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and never turned down a chance to get in on a game of euchre. He also enjoyed watching one of his favorite programs, The Three Stooges. Cliff is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; four sons, Chad, Kirk and Adam all of Ubly and Richard of Bay City; one daughter, Stephanie (Steve) Wood of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, Carter Glaza, Samantha and Matthew Wood; his mother, Arline (Roland) Symons of Bad Axe; two brothers, Gary (Sandy) Glaza of Saginaw and David (Pauline) Glaza of Waterville, Ohio; one sister, Valerie (Peter) Kuzma of Troy; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Shelly) Alent and Joseph (Sylvia) Alent, both of Minden City; three sisters-in-law, Georgiann (James) Chinoski, Brenda (Alan) Kincaid and Jodi (Charles “Chuck”) Wright, all of Ubly; and many nieces and nephews. Cliff was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Chester Alent; and mother-in- law, Margaret Alent. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. The Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:30 until 11 a.m. on Friday at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. Full Military honors will be conducted by Ubly Thumb Veteran’s Organization Post No. 1 at the church following mass. In Lieu of flowers, memorials have been requested to the family discretionary fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.
