Glaza, 86, long time resident of Hazel Park, departed this earth on Sunday, April 13, 2014, to join his beloved wife, Beatrice. He now rests in the arms of the Lord. Norman was born April 1, 1928, in Paris Township, Huron County, to Aloysz and Martha (Klama) Glaza. He married Beatrice Terbrack on Nov. 1, 1949, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. She preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 2006. Norman spent his early years on the family farm in Paris Township. After his marriage, he and his bride moved to Ferndale, and Norm started working in the auto parts manufacturing industry. He worked at various auto parts factories until his retirement on Aug. 1, 1991, from Masco Tech. Norm enjoyed his retirement immensely and always was on the go. He made frequent trips “up North” and especially looked forward to St. Mary’s festival in Parisville and the Mama Ruth festival. He also made it a point to attend numerous church festivals in the Detroit area, especially if Big Daddy Lackowski was part of the entertainment. He loved listening to the polkas. His travels were curtailed in 2001 when he developed wet macular degeneration, but he still managed to make frequent trips up North and attend the church festivals whenever he could hitch a ride. In 1952, Norman and Beatrice purchased their first home in Hazel Park. In 1957, they had a new home built in Hazel Park to accommodate their growing family. Norman remained in that home for 56 years. He was a member of St. Justin Catholic church for 56 years, where he also was an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3835 for 59 years. Norm was the last person left of the quartet made up of Norm and Beatrice and his brother Art and Art’s wife, Rita, who was Beatrice’s sister. He now has rejoined the circle, and so an era has ended. Norm’s family wants to acknowledge his niece, Adeline Harris, for her kind and loving care of their father in the last weeks of his life. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Adeline that cannot be expressed in mere words. Left to mourn his death are his six children, Norma (Gary) Novick of Warren, James (Diane) Glaza of Clawson, John (Colleen) Glaza of Warren, Marie Glaza of Warren, Robert (Becky) Glaza of Madison Heights and David Glaza of Pontiac; one loving daughter-in-law, Kim Rachow and her husband, Mark, of Troy; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Marshall; in-law’s, John Terbrack, Donald (Nancy) Terbrack, Billie Johnson, Adelaide (Jerome) Block, Alice (Ken) Sadro, Rosalia (Richard) Holdwick and Delores (Harry) Roggenbuck. He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Alan; brother, Arthur and his wife, Rita (Terbrack) Glaza; two sisters, Angeline Pyrek and Eleanor Vrobel and her husband, Steve; in-laws, Herbert, Marvin, Maruis, Gerald, Herman and Clarence Terbrack, Donna (Stimpfel) Terbrack, Evelyn (Terbrack) Learman and her husband, Art, Jeanette (Terbrack) Seidl and her husband, Frank, and Matilda (Terbrack) Johnson. A funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Justin Catholic Church in Hazel Park. Vitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hopcroft Funeral Home at 23919 John R. Road, Hazel Park, MI, 48030. He will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral mass at the church.
