Glaza August 25, 1915 - June 11, 2014 Mrs. Gertrude C. Glaza, 98, a lifelong resident of Ubly, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the Willow Tree Haven Home in Gagetown. Gertrude was born August 25, 1915, in Ubly, to the late Roman and Pauline (Pollum) Briolat. She married Stanley Glaza on October 15, 1935, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1996. Gertrude was a graduate of the Proctor Country School. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. Gertrude was a former officer and active member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle No. 608 for more than 50 years. S he enjoyed trips to Northern Michigan, quilting, needle work and china painting. Gertrude especially enjoyed playing any kind of card games and entertaining, which usually went hand in hand. Gertrude cherished anytime spent with her loving family and friends. Gertrude is survived by her loving children all of Ubly, Marie Roberts, Donald “Orv” Glaza and his wife, Marcia, Arnold Glaza and Larry Glaza and his wife, Doty; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Sophie Sawle of Clinton Township, Florence Mattis and her husband, Frank, of Dearborn Heights, Martha Krug of Bad Axe, and Louise Gibson and her husband, Ray, of Ubly. Gertrude was preceded in death one son-in-law, William Roberts; one daughter-in- law, Judy Glaza; one granddaughter, Jodi Glaza; four brothers, Ervin, Stanley, Clemence and Henry Briolat; and three sisters, Ruth Krug, Ann Leppek and Irene Osentoski. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly. The Rev. Patrick O’ Connor, pastor of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Midland, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Church only. There will be a joint rosary by the St. John Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon, a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home.
