Goniwichia, 64, blacksmith the last 20 years and a former Sigel Township farmer, died unexpectedly Tuesday October 24, of a heart attack in his home at Rapson, nine miles northeast of Bad Axe, while watching television. Born January 25, 1897, in Paris Township, Mr. Goniwicha was a lifelong resident of Huron county. He was a World War I veteran and a member of Burhans Hagedon Post No. 197 American Legion Harbor Beach. He and Miss Anastasia Peyerk were married June 16, 1925 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. They lived on a farm in Sigel township before moving 11 years ago to Rapson, Mr. Goniwicha is survived by his widow, four sons, Leo and Leonard Goniwicha, both of Harbor Beach; and Jerry and Peter F. Goniwicha, both of whom live with their parents; five daughters, Mrs. Alvin Gwisdalla, Mrs. Glenn Thrushman and Mrs. Ernest Young, all of Warren, Mich.; Mrs, Elmer Talaski, Bad Axe; and Miss Sandra Goniwicha, who lived with her parents; 24 grandchildren, three brothers, Ray and Sylvester Goniwicha, both of Harbor Beach, and Frank , Detroit; and eight sisters, Mrs. Martha Shaina, Port Huron; Mrs. Frances Artanowicz, Port Hope; Mrs. Minnie Lorkowski, Bad Axe; Mrs. Constance Neal, Utica, Mich.; Mrs. Eleanor Bouverette and Mrs. Marian Kranz, both of Detroit; and Mrs. Bernice Kociba, Harbor Beach. Funeral sercices were held at 20 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church at Rapson. Very Rev. Joseph Karaba, O.S,B., officiated. Military burial services were conducted in the church cemetery.
