Raymond Joseph Goniwicha February 6, 1895 - August 12, 1971 HARBOR BEACH Raymond Goniwicha, 76, a former Harbor Beach resident, died Thursday in Harper Woods Hospital, Detroit, after a long illness. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Goniwicha, he was born February 6, 1895, in Mayville. He and Clara Wrubel were married in 1916. She died in 1950. Mr. Goniwicha farmed in the Harbor Beach and Mayville areas until moving to Detroit 20 years ago. He is survived by 10 daughters, Mrs. Leona Heilig and Mrs. Jeanette Langenburg, both of Cass City; Mrs. Eleanor Page, Mrs. Genevieve Lentovich, and Mrs. Agnes Lute, all of Livonia; Mrs. Odella Heilig, Emmett, Mrs. Florence Dzuiba, Detroit, Mrs. Gladys Femenuk, Milford, Mrs. Mildred Fox, Auburn, Indiana, and Mrs. Lorraine Gibson, Ypsilanti; two sons, Elmer Goniwich, Farmington, and Walter Gonwicha, Highland, Mich.; 74 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mr. Maron Rubel, Detroit, and Mrs. Josephine Rasinski, Davison, and two brothers, Stanley and William Goniwicha, both of Detroit. Funeral services were to be held at 10:30 a.m. today In Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church with Rev. Bela Torok, officiating. Burial was In Our Lady of Lake Huron Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Published Times Herald (Port Huron, Michigan) Saturday August 14, 1971. Additional Comments: Note: Born to Charles & Josephine (Klama) Goniwicha. In his younger years he went by the name of Roman(1900 census and marriage record to Clara). By 1918, he was going by the name of Raymond. Shortly after his 15th birthday, his mother died (March 10,1910) and about 2 weeks later, the family home caught fire. His father split up the children and sent them to live with relatives so it is possible that he was sent to live with an uncle.
