Gorkowski, Jr. October 2, 1925 - September 28, 2011 Peter P. Gorkowski, Jr., 85, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe. He was born October 2, 1925 in Detroit to the late Peter P. and Celia (Maday) Gorkowski, Sr. Peter and Helen Jean Ignash were united in marriage on October 16, 1948. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1987 after 39 years of marriage. He married Joan K. Kotula on July 31, 1992, and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2008. He served in the United States Army in 1945 through 1946 during World War II and was stationed in Japan. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson and a Knights of Columbus member for over 50 years. Peter was a lifelong farmer in Verona Township. He is survived by four sons, Ronald Gorkowski of Peyton, Colorado, Martin (Darlene) Gorkowski of Filion, Paul (Christine) Gorkowski of Bad Axe and Jerry Gorkowski of Bad Axe; two daughters, Kathie Tuyo of Livonia and Elizabeth Gorkowski of Lapeer; two brothers, Eugene Gorkowski of Filion and Robert (Stella) Gorkowski of Filion; two sisters, Delphine MacEachin and Christine (Clarence) Rutkowski of Ubly; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Ignash and Bernadette Young. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson with Fr. Robert Howe and Fr. Bill Rutkowski officiating. Private family burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from 3 - 9 p.m. on Friday with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Mac Chapel in Bad Axe and at 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday, at the church. Memorials may be offered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
