Grifka, 87, of Ubly passed away Sunday evening, October 24, 2004, at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw after a short illness. Cass was born March 4, 1917, in Tyre to the late Edward and Catherine (Pollum) Grifka. He married Margaret (Alent) Peruski on May 21, 1966, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Cass was a farmer and carpenter all his life. He is a Veteran of Foreign Wars, serving his country for five years in World War II. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and two Bronze Battle Stars. He was parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. He was a member of the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus Council No. 1546. He loved to go to Florida and St. Helen. He enjoyed playing cards, telling stories and jokes and visiting with family and friends. Cass is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Ubly; three sons, William Peruski and his wife, Jan, of Ubly, Robert Peruski and his wife, Connie, of Ubly, Thomas Peruski and his wife, Nancy, of Ubly; 10 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; one brother, John "Jack" Grifka of Warren; four sisters, Martha Leppek and her husband, Chester, of Parisville, Theresa Taylor of Ubly, Alice Horetski of Port Austin, Agnes Taylor of Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Magdalene Grifka and Olive Grifka; one brother-in-law, Alex Particka; and many nieces and nephews. Cass was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Alex Grifka; four sisters, Eleanor Particka, Gladys Grifka, Kathleen Grifka and Irene Grifka; three brothers-in-law, Alger Horetski, Frank Taylor, and Jim Taylor. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Patrick O'Connor, pastor of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Saginaw, will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today, from 1 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both services will be at the funeral home.
