(Shad) Grisdela, March 20, 2008, age 81. Beloved wife of 51 years to the late Elmer. Survived by their eight children: Margaret (Ted Sharp), Catherine Kaiser (Bill), Elizabeth Cezat, Phillip (Cindy), Paul (Kathy), Barbara Fornasiero (Eric), Michael (Cathy) and Peter (Gerry Bross); 16 grandchildren; sister Marilyn Kemp, and sister-in-law Betty Callaghan (the late Richard). Born to Elizabeth and Thomas Callaghan of Howell. Graduated from Marygrove College and earned advanced degrees from Wayne State University and Case Western Reserve. Always active, she served in leadership volunteer roles in the United Way and the Michigan Parkinson Foundation and was a religious education director for St. Alphonsus Parish in Dearborn. In retirement, Catherine and her husband moved from Detroit to her childhood home in Howell to care for her elderly mother. She and Al had a happy retirement, filled with travel, friends and family. Catherine was also devoted to the community, education, and the Catholic Church. She was an avid Tigers fan and fine arts patron. She had a wide circle of loving friends. Her kindness, courage, generosity and genuine interest in others set an inspiring example, even as she battled Parkinson’s disease. In recent years, the South Lyon Gardens Nursing Home staff and residents became her second family. Visitation Friday 4–8 p.m. and Saturday 1-4 & 6–8, rosary at 7 p.m. at MacDonald’s Funeral Home, 315 N. Michigan Avenue, Howell, Michigan. Funeral Monday 2 p.m. with viewing at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 East Washington Street, Howell. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Howell. Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
