Huron Soldier Killed May 2 By Land Mine

Bad Axe, May 13 -- Cpl Arthur hartshorn Jr, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur A. 
Hartshorn, was killed in action May 2 in Korea in the explosion of an enemy land 
mine. His parents received official notice Monday from the Dept of Defense. Cpl 
Hartshorn, who enlisted in the Army two years ago, arrived a year ago in Japan. 
He was in Korea five months with the 40th division, a National Guide unit from 
California. He was expected home this month on rotation. Born Oct 1, 1929, in 
Bad Axe, he was graduated in 1946 from Bad Axe High School. 

He is survived by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. James Keckler, Lansing and 
Misses Joanne and Harriet Hartshorn, who live with their parents, and his 
grandfather, Lee Terwilliger, Port Huron.
