Gerald "Jerry" Heilig of Whitmore Lake, MI passed unexpectedly Sunday, February 
5, 2023. He was 80 years old. He was born in Ruth, MI and later moved to Ubly, 
MI where he raised his family for over 30 years. Jerry retired from Thompson-
McCully as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers 324.
While Jerry did like to hunt, his true passion was his hot rods and Harleys. 
Friends will remember him as the "Gatekeeper" of his community. He was always 
ready to tell a story and share a laugh.
Jerry was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an avid 
spectator and # 1 fan for all his family's activities and events.
He is survived and missed by his devoted partner of 23 years, Kathleen Dawson; 
his sons, Jerry Jr. (Wendy), Brian (Lori), Jim (Marcia) and Howard (Jessica); 
step-daughters Kristen (George) Papalexis, Jenny (Mike) Smith and step-son Eric 
Dawson. Forever cherished and remembered by his 18 grandkids and 12 great-grand 
kids.
Family and Friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be 
held at the Goodrich Country Club, 10080 Hegel Road, Goodrich, MI 48438 on 
Thursday, February 9 from 2:00p – 6:00p. In lieu of flowers, memorial 
contributions can be made to Angels of Hope Cancer Center at angelsofhope.org.
