Merle M. Johnson September 16, 1923 - July 12, 1999 PORT HURON Merle M. "Bud" Johnson, 75, of Port Huron, died Monday, July 12, 1999 in Mercy Hospital following a short illness. He was born September 16, 1923 in Palms, the son of the late Cortland and Elizabeth Johnson. He married Dorothy Warchock on April 14, 1945 in Harbor Beach. He was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church. Merle was most often called "Bud" by his friends and family. He was well known as a Valley Coach bus driver for over 20 years, then retiring from Prestolite in 1988. His hobbies included bird watching, catching squirrels to give them a better home and working on his inventions. His passions included traveling with his wife and his CB radios. He will be best known as always having a story to tell and was always lending a hand to fix what you had broken. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy; his sons and daughters-in-law, Rick (Maggie) Johnson of Utica, Dean (Fran) Johnson of Monroe and Craig (Kim) Johnson of Fort Gratiot; his daughter and son-in-law, Dotti (Donald) Porrett of Fort Gratiot; ten grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephens Catholic Church. The Rev. David Lesniak, Pastor of St. Stephens Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. A Rosary will be held today at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ernest Warchock, Donald Porrett, Craig Johnson II, Kelly Davis, Don Johnson and Jake Knisley. Memorials may be made to the Michigan Heart Association, the American Lung Association or St. Stephens Catholic Church. Published Times Herald (Port Huron, Michigan) Wednesday July 14, 1999.
