Benjamin Karbowski December 18, 1923 - February 7, 2013 Benjamin Karbowski, 89, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Sheffield Place following a lingering illness. He was born in Arenac County on December 18, 1923 to the late Antony and Lena (Nowak) Karbowski. He married Betty Salgat on June 26, 1947 at St. Anne Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2008. Ben was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Linwood K of C and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He was the former owner and founder of Karbowski Oil from 1984 to 2012. He is survived by grand children, Jeff and Maggie Karbowski and Karen (Chris Wendling) Karbowski; great-granddaughter, Lindsey Karbowski; two daughters-in- law, Mary Kay Karbowski and Shelly Karbowski; step-granddaughter, Holly and Jeff Schneider; and three great-step grandchildren; a brother, Jack and Pat Karbowski; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Karbowski and Inez Karbowski. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Karbowski and Gerry Karbowski. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Sheffield Place for the wonderful care given to Ben during his time with them. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11 AM from St. Anne Catholic Church with Burial in St. Anne Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council and the U.S. Navy. Friends may call at Rivertown Funeral Chapel on Monday from 1-8 PM. A Vigil & K of C Bible presentation will be held at 7 PM Monday evening. On Tuesday, Ben will lie-in-state at church from 10 AM until time of services.
