Steven S. Klama, 20, of 9890 Division Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Trooper Mark Stewart, St. Clair post. There were no other injuries, he said. The engineer told Stewart that he was going about 40 miles an hour when he saw Klama. He applied his brakes, but could not stop in time. The train struck the car on the passenger's side of the car and carried it about 1,400 feet before it stopped, Stewart said. It is unknown if Klama failed to clear the crossing or slid into it, said Sgt. William Nowicki.
