Douglas was born on August 30, 1955, in Detroit, the son of Roy and Olga Rejc Koenders. Upon completing his formal education, Douglas graduated in 1973 from Fraser High School in Fraser, Michigan. Later, Douglas enlisted into the U.S. Army. Serving his country honorably, Douglas received his honorable discharge on November 27, 1978. He worked in the skilled trades as an electrician prior to relocating to this area in 1980. After attending TDDS, Douglas obtained his CDL certification. He was then employed in the transportation industry by Yellow Roadway Corporation for 29 years. On June 16, 1984, Douglas and Betty I. Janus were united in marriage. Douglas was a parishioner of St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls, Ohio. He participated in the men’s renewal at the church. Doug would also volunteer his time at the Church Mouse and at Bingo. In the spring, Doug could be found outdoor gardening with his faithful companion, “Woody,” his Labrador Retriever. As a sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns while still loyal to his hometown teams, the Detroit Redwings and the Detroit Tigers. Memories of Doug will be carried on by his wife, Betty; his adored daughter, Madelyn M. Koenders; his mother, Olga; his siblings, Nancy Clarkson, David (Laurel) Koenders, Dennis (Barbara) Koenders, Robert (Judy) Koenders and Barbara (Jeff) Jones. Preceding Douglas was his father, Roy. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home, where a service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
