Mr. Donald B. Lang, 87, of Palms, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010, surrounded by his loving family under hospice care. He was born October 14, 1922 in Gladwin to the late John Albert and Sadie (Gibbard) Lang. He married Marie A. Booms on April 29, 1950 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Donald attended the Minden City School. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII on the USS Conklin and USS Young, surviving the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He sailed the Great Lakes for two years, farmed for 35 years and retired from Midwest Rubber Company after 18 years of employment. Donald was a parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms, where he was an usher for 65 years and a member of the Catholic Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council No. 3823 and a member of the Parisville VFW Post No. 5340. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie; two sons, Wayne of Ubly and Norman (Lisa) of Sandusky; five daughters, Donna Leppek of China Township, Karen (Leo) Naracon of Sandusky, Lucinda (James) Kincaid of Lexington, Patricia (Lee) Wendt of Gaines, Joanne (Mark) Schwab, of Smiths Creek; 16 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pearl Lang of Westland; a number of nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by a 19-month-old daughter, Yvonne Rose, in 1959; son-in- law, Timothy Hanselman, in 1999; grandson, Thomas Wendt, on July 27, 2010, four brothers; John, George, Dennis and Maurice; three sisters, Marion Kolar, Helen Oswald and Lucia Lang. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms. The Rev. Donald Eppenbrock will officiate. Burial will be next to his daughter, Yvonne Rose, in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church only. There will be a Ruth Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
