John "Dutch" Saginaw Towmpship, Michigan. Loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017. Age 87 years. The son of the late Walter and Frances (Laisure) Lawrence, John was born April 2, 1930 in Bad Axe, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. John married Gertrude M. Smaglinski on April 16, 1955. She predeceased him June 16, 2007. John was employed by the Michigan State Highway Department for 42 years as an inspector. John was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, an usher, president of St. Thomas Aquinas Athletic Association, SS. Peter and Paul Athletic Association, Past Grand Knight and Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Council #4232 and Msgr. Horton Assembly #2049. He also active in the Boy Scouts of America Troop #312 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was a great handyman. Surviving are three sons, one daughter and their spouses, John and Sandi Lawrence, Antioch, Illinois; Patricia and William Meyers, Saginaw; Joseph and Jeanne Lawrence, Saginaw; Richard and Christine Lawrence, Rockford; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and Rita Lawrence, Arizona; George and Frances Lawrence, Sebewaing; many nieces nephews and special friends especially Kathleen Gilles. John was preceded in death by his sister, Mary (Alex) Porzse and a brother, Joseph Lawrence. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate with interment in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knight of Columbus Council #4232 will pray the Rosary 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or Holy Cross Children's Services.
