She died peacefully on December 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and determined, well-fought battle with cancer. Jeanne was born July 9, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to James Claire Buckley and Mary Loretta (Ryan) Buckley, the second of their ten children. She graduated from Merrill High School and earned her RN from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Saginaw, then attended Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital School of Anesthesiology in Detroit to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, graduating in 1967. She also later earned a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare and Education from Ottawa University, and a Masters of Science in Anesthesia from Mercy College of Detroit. In 1966 Jeanne met the love of her life, Joseph Stanley Learman. They were married on April 20, 1968, eventually establishing their home in Saline in 1972 where they raised their three children - Stan, Steve, and Audrey. Jeanne was a compassionate health care provider and educator who had a long and fulfilling career including managing her own business, Saline Anesthesia Associates. She provided overall management of anesthesia services at several community hospitals, including 13 years at Saline Community Hospital, and served as a staff anesthetist at multiple hospitals including most recently at Mercy and Memorial Hospitals in Monroe. She authored Anesthesia textbook chapters, lectured and planned programs for continuing education, and served as an instructor for the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. An engaged advocate for her profession, she served on the board of directors of many professional associations including the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and served as President of the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists. A mentor to many, she freely shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with those looking to enter the field. Jeanne's advocacy and service to others extended well beyond her career. Actively involved for over 40 years with The Ozone House, a center to help at-risk and homeless youth, she and Joe provided short-term foster care for 80 kids, founded their Education Fund, and hosted parties to raise funds and awareness. Most recently, in her retirement, Jeanne found it deeply rewarding to serve as an Ozone House crisis line volunteer. She was also a dedicated supporter of Habitat for Humanity, sponsoring an entire home and providing weeks of sweat equity in getting it built. In addition she served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Saline, and canvassed for various state and local candidates who supported affordable and accessible health care and education, women's rights, and other underserved populations, particularly poor and homeless children. She was always willing to open her home and her heart to family or friends in need. Be it a small impromptu get together, a tennis team, a golf league, a big party, a bridge group, a family reunion, or a trip, Jeanne was always ready to take the reins to bring family and friends together. Jeanne and Joe loved to golf and shared a lot of wonderful times with their children, grandchildren, and friends on the golf course. If she wasn't playing golf then you might find her playing tennis, bicycling, playing bridge, kayaking, polka dancing, riding a pontoon boat or any other adventure she could find. More than anything she loved to incorporate all of her activities, thirst for adventure, and time spent with family and friends into her travels all over the world. In addition to her husband Joe, Jeanne is survived by her children Stanley Learman and his wife Linda, Stephen Learman and his wife Marta, and Audrey and her husband Thomas, all of Saline. She was also an important influence in the lives of her grandchildren Nicole Margeson and her husband Matthew, Joseph Learman, Colin Learman, Emily Learman, Connor Learman, Mitchell Manninen, Landon Shell, Ethan Shell, and great-granddaughter Helena Margeson. She is survived by her siblings Thomas Buckley, Ronald Buckley, Patricia Johnston, James Buckley, Gregory Buckley, Gary Buckley, Margaret Buckley, Mary Going, and Brian Buckley, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Contributions honoring Jeanne may be made to one of her favorite charities The Ozone House, 1705 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 or Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, 170 Aprill Drive, Suite A, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. An Open House Celebration of Jeanne's Life will be held on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor from 1pm-4pm.
