Martha S. (Salowitz) Leppek 
November 1, 1910 – February 17, 2011

Mrs. Martha S. (Salowitz) Leppek, 100, of Deckerville and formerly of the Utica 
area, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Autumnwood of Deckerville.  
She was born November 1, 1910 in Paris Township to the late Leo and Mary 
Salowitz.  She married Edmund Leppek on January 10, 1931 at St. Mary Catholic 
Church in Parisville.  He preceded her in death December 17, 1989.
 
She was a graduate of the St. Mary Elementary School of Parisville.  She worked 
as a seamstress during WW II at the Willow Run Bomber Plant making seat covers 
for the bombers.  She moved to Wayne in 1943 and lived there until she moved to 
the Utica area in 1952.  She was a parishioner at St. Lawrence Parish in 
Utica.  She then moved to Deckerville in 2002 and has resided there since.

Martha is survived by one daughter, Audrey L. Gayda and her husband, William, 
of Shelby Township; two sons, Edmund L. Leppek and his wife, Diane, of Alpena, 
William W. Leppek and his wife, Jean, of Raleigh, North Carolina; one son-in-
law, Eugene Swartz of Macomb Township; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-
grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by 
her daughter, Aeriellia Swartz; two grandchildren, Lynne and Michael; two great-
grandchildren, Jennie and Eric.

The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at St. John Catholic 
Church in Ubly.  The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will 
be in the church cemetery in the spring.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John Church in Ubly.  
Care has been entrusted to the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.
