He was known by all his friends and family as Al. Al earned a B.S. degree from Michigan State University and an Associate degree in Fine Arts from Lansing Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. King, 1958-62. He retired from the State of Michigan as a data systems analyst in 1997. Al used his creative skills in photography, ceramics, and woodworking making many items for friends and family. Al married his college sweetheart, Marilyn, on August 25, 1962. They enjoyed almost 57 years together, mostly in the greater Lansing area until 2005 when they moved to Traverse City. They were active members of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lansing, Peoples Church in East Lansing, and Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. Al was very active as a Master Mason: Past Master & Life Member of East Lansing Lodge #480, honorary member of Traverse City #222 and #264. He was a Royal Arch Mason in the Traverse City Chapter #102 and Cadillac Council #70. He loved being a member of the Traverse City Commandery #41. He was Past Commander & life member of the American Legion Post #460. He was a charter member of the High Twelve Club #757. He was a Past Patron of Eastern Star #267 & #147 and received the Grand Cross of Color from the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Al was predeceased by his parents Joseph & Bertha; brothers Chester, Gerald, and Paul Leppek. He is survived by brother Melvin (Virginia) Leppek; wife Marilyn; daughters Jan Cox (Dennis) & Deborah Dean (Daniel), grandchildren, Jessica & Alexander Dean; brother-in-law Charles W. Barr II; sister-in-laws Bette & Frances Leppek; cousin Lambert (Krystyna) Leppek; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster Rd., on Wednesday, August 7 with Masonic and Eastern Star Services at 10:30 am, family visitation at 11:00 am, and memorial service with Rev. Dr. William Myers officiating at 11:30 am. Graveside Services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lansing on Friday, August 9 at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend any and all services. Donations in memory of Al can be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Knights Templar Eye Foundation, or Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
