Maurer, 92, a lifelong resident of Ubly, passed away Monday morning, August 18, 2008 at Northwood Meadows in Cass City under hospice care. Grace was born on June 24, 1916 in Parisville to the late William and Eva (Danielski) Leppek. She married Frederick K. Maurer on October 24, 1938 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2005. Grace was a graduate of the MacMillan Elementary School. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sandusky from 1942 to 1948. Grace became a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly in November 1948 where she was a member of the Young Ladies Sodality. Grace was also a former officer and member of the St. John Christian Mothers Circle No. 1, St. Ann’s, since 1948. She worked for the Ubly Seat Belt Factory from 1972 to 1979. Grace enjoyed gardening, baking, dancing, quilting and her card club. She truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Grace is survived by two daughters, Doris (Carl) Kolar of Sterling Heights, Marilyn (Jim) Mastie of Cass City; two sons, Fred (Raddie) Maurer of Perry, Gene (Barbara) Maurer of Grand Blanc; seven grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, John (Joan) Maurer of Smith Corners; two sisters-in-law, Betty Maurer of Smith Corners, Magdeline Leppek of Rapson; several nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by one brother, Zig Leppek; and an infant brother and sister. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
