She was born December 29, 1953, in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Stanley and Rita (Kubacki) Helewski. Betty graduated from Ubly High School, class of 1972. She received her LPN degree from St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron in 1973. Betty married Brian Maurer on May 12, 1984, in Florida. They resided in Florida for 17 1/2 years, later residing in Seattle, Washington, New York State, and in 2003, moved to Crystal Falls where they resided until 2009, at which time they moved to Spread Eagle. While living in Florida, Betty worked as an LPN and most recently in Crystal Falls where she took care of many of the elderly in their homes as a home care worker. She enjoyed many hobbies including bird watching, feeding the birds and her chickens, walking, being outdoors, sewing, cooking, making quilts for her family who she loved very much, and always could be found helping her husband with many of his chores. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Dickinson Home Health in Iron Mountain. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Brian; two brothers, Dave (Jean) Helewski of Bad Axe, Rick (Julie) Helewski of Ubly; eight sisters, Pat (Ken) Majeski of Kinde, Marge (Dick) Frantz of Kinde; Sue (Carl) Weber of Ubly; Barb (Don) Kolar of Minden City, Marilyn (Rob) Grocholski of Bay City, Carlin (Steve) Maurer of Bad Axe, Mary Jo Cleary, and special friend, Matt of Ubly, Lorie (Rich) Block of Ruth; sister-in-law, Paula (Ross) Westbrook of Williamston; brother-in-laws, Doug (Jan) Maurer and Terry (Sheryl) Maurer; and many nieces and nephews.
