Betty was born in Rapson on June 3, 1924 to the late John and Agnes (Tschirhart) Pulcer. She married Neil Joseph Maurer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners after his return from service in WWII. Betty and Neil settled in the Ubly area, later taking over operations of the Pulcer farm near Verona. Betty toiled alongside her husband in the fields, barn expanding and improving their farming operation into a successful Grade A dairy farm. After retirement in the mid 80’s, Betty continued to spend time on her interests such as dancing, country music, her friends and family. She lived her life on her farm, remaining there after her husband’s passing on September 12, 2000. In later years, she was known for selling her raspberries from her garden. She was dedicated to the care and upkeep of her farm, only giving up mowing her lawn by herself this year. Betty is survived by her son, Randolph (Randy) Joseph Maurer and his wife, Pamela (Smithers) of Ubly; two granddaughters, Nicole (Christopher) Champagne of Flint, Miranda (Vathana) Song of Phoenix, AZ; four great grandchildren, Ian, Alexa and Daegan Champagne, Miette-Pamela Maurer; three siblings, Ann Morell of Ubly, Arline Symons of Bad Axe and Ray (Donna) Pulcer of Harbor Beach. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Pulcer and his wife, Pearl. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Friday, November 11 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor will officiate. Burial and graveside service will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery of Smith Corners. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Friday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a rosary recited Thursday at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
