Frederick Karl Maurer
January 7, 1914 - September 28, 2005
Mr. Fred Maurer, 91, of Ubly, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 
the Huron, County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe.  He was born on January 
7, 1914 in Ubly to the late John and Emma (Heilig) Maurer.  He was united in 
marriage to Grace Leppek on October 24, 1938 at St. Mary Catholic Church in 
Parisville:   Fred was a graduate of the Maurer Elementary School.  He 
worked at Thumb Electric as a lineman from 1937-1977, retiring after 40 
years of employment.  He was a parishioner, usher, and member of the Mens 
Club at St John Catholic Church in Ubly.  He was a past president of St. 
John School Board for 4 years.  He was a member of the Ubly Community School 
Board for 6 years.  He sat on the Ubly Village Council for 23 years and was 
a past member of the Ubly Community Club for 40 years.  He was an honorary 
member of the Ubly Fox Hunters Club.  He played baseball at Smith Comers for 
20 years and in Sandusky for 5 years.  He; enjoyed fishing, hunting, 
mushroom picking and watching the Detroit Tigers.  He loved spending time 
with family and friends. 

Fred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace, of Ubly, his children, 
Doris Kolar and her husband, Carl 5 of Sterling Heights, Marilyn Mastie and 
her husband, Jim, of Cass City, Fred Maurer Jr. and his wife, Raddie, of 
Petty, and Gene Maurer and his wife, Barbara, of Grand Blanc; 7 
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Maurer and his 
wife, Joan, of Ubly, three sisters-in-law, Magdeline Leppek of Rapson, Betty 
Maurer, of Smith Comers and Margaret Maurer of Harbor Beach; several nieces 
and nephews.  Fred was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Edward, 
Anthony Neil and Elmer Maurer; four sisters, Kate True, Helen Oberski, Clara 
Polk and Emma Mazure. 

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, October 1, 2005 at St. John Catholic 
Church in Ubly.  Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, officiated.  Burial was in the 
church cemetery.  Arrangements were handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral
