Mr McEachin suffered a stroke Fri night and was taken to the hospital. He operated a blacksmith shop in Ubly for a help century. He often remarked that he made everything from horseshoes to wagon wheels and many of his own tools. He was still able to work in a blacksmith shop until his fatal illness. He made several violins, cutting and curing the wood himself and carving it by hand. His first violin was made in a lumber camp in Gladwin county for an Independence Day dance in 1900. Born July 16, 1863, near Park Hill Ont, he came to the thumb in 1878 with his parents who settled near Greenleaf. He plowed firebreaks with a team of oxen to prevent the great forest fire of 1881 from reaching their farm. He and Miss Catherine Johnson were married in 1900. She died in 1942. Mr McEachin is survived by 3 sons, Bernard, John and Leo McEachin, all of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs Arthur B Moat, Buffalo, NY and Miss Jessie McEachin, Clarkston, MI; five grandchildren and a great grandchild. The remains are in the Edward Zinger & Son funeral home where Rosary devotions will be conducted at 9 p.m. Tues. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wed in St John the Evangelist Cath ch Rev Jerome V McEachin, Lansing, a nephew, and Rev Stanley A Kilar, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Acacia Park cemetery in Detroit.
