A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in the Beaver Catholic Cemetery. Joe was born October 27, 1944 in Keokuk, Iowa, to the late Paul and Margaret (Shepherd) Merideth. He received his education in Des Moines and at the age of 17 enlisted the United States Navy serving his country during the Vietnam era. Following his discharge, he made his home in various communities doing bartending, working on the railroad, working in a care center before taking a job as a lab technician for the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, where he retired. On February 14, 1981, he married Lillian Page at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Des Moines. Most of their life was spent in the Granger and Woodward area and more recently had moved to Knoxville to be closer to their son. In free time Joe enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Myers and a half-sister Pauline.
