Messing, 95, of Harbor Beach passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Lakeview Extended Care Facility in Harbor Beach. Rosaline was born at home in Harbor Beach on October 21, 1912, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bischer) Booms. Rosaline married Bernard Messing on May 23, 1936 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1991. Before Rosaline was married, she worked as a house maid in Detroit for seven years. She farmed with her husband for 36 years at their Sherman Township farm on Klug Road. She also worked for Clement Wire and Cable of Minden City, retiring in August of 1972. Rosaline was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena for her entire life. She participated in many church activities, including singing in the church chorus for many years. She belonged to St. Anthony’s Altar Society for nearly 70 years and was also an active member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle # 608 of Bad Axe for over 50 years. Rosaline enjoyed sewing for herself, her family, others and the church. She excelled at designing and sewing quilts. Many of her quilts were given to family members who have treasured them for years. She had a flair for making clothes for her nieces, whose design came from picking a picture out of a Sears-Roebuck catalog ad. She also designed and sewed various church vestments and other church decor. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her colorful flower beds, which were admired by all. Rosaline also volunteered her time for over 50 years to collect donations for the local cancer fund drives each year. For many years, Rosaline’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren anticipated coming to Grandma’s house for Christmas and other holidays for her wonderful and tasty meals. Her family would always follow those meals by sledding down the hills or fishing in the creek at the family farm. She enjoyed a full and active life.
