Messing, 91, of Pigeon and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Pigeon. He was born November 15, 1916 in Ruth, son of the late William T. and Mary (Emming) Messing. He married Eleanor E. Swartz August 31, 1940 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. She preceded him in death August 30, 2004. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe and of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing euchre with family and friends. He is survived by his two sons: Ken (Mary) Messing of Bad Axe and Don (Diane) Messing of Sonoma, California; two daughters: Gloria (Baker) Armstrong and her husband, D. Paul Armstrong of Bad Axe, and Jane (Floyd) Saunders of Andover, Kansas.; one brother, Clem (Donna) Messing of Ruth; two sisters, Mary Essenmacher of Harbor Beach and Gladys Priemer of Ruth; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Dale D. Messing; four brothers, Charles, Robert, Wilfred and James Messing; three sisters, Margaret Kirsch, Celia VanDalen, and Genevieve Kosal. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Fr. Rob Howe, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
