December 12, 2007 HURON DAILY TRIBUNE
Leonard J. Messing, 94, of Harbor Beach passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007 
at his Sigel Township home with hospice care.  Born July 26, 1913 in Ruth, he 
was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Tenbusch) Messing.  Leonard was a 
member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and was a 
former Great Lakes sailor from 1930-1934 and worked on the assembly line of 
Ford and Chrysler when the lakes were frozen in the wintertime.  He purchased 
his farm in 1934. On June 22, 1935, Leonard and Theresa Romzek were united in 
marriage in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Helena. Together they farmed in 
Sigel Township.  Leonard was a card player, especially playing euchre with 
family and friends.  He was a former board member of the Adams School in Sigel 
Township for several years. 

Leonard is survived by his wife of 72 years Theresa Messing of Harbor Beach; 
and their children, Shirley Schubitowski Hoffman and her husband, John, of 
Oscoda, Patricia Heleski and her husband, Clarence, of Ubly, Russell Messing 
and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mead, Washington, Calvin Messing and his wife, 
Sharon of Manchester, Dale Messing and his wife, Diane, of Taylor, Texas, 
Bruce Messing and his wife, Jeanne, of Nebo, North Carolina, Bradley Messing 
and his wife, Julie, of Manchester; 40 grandchildren; and 63 great-
grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy 
Roggenbuck of Harbor Beach.  He was preceded in death by a son, Leonard 
Messing Jr. and grandson, Benjamin Messing; brothers, Leo, Arthur, Lawrence, 
Walter and Andrew Messing; and sisters, Clara Clor, Helen Kirsch, Eleanor 
Adler, Irene Samalski, Anna Essenmacher, Magdaline Kranz. 

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2007 in Our Lady 
of Lake Huron Church with Fr. Robert Shine officiating. Burial will be in the 
church cemetery.
