Messing, 92, of Minden City died on Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Marwood Manor of Port Huron. She was born on July 11, 1908, in the Helena area to the late John and Elizabeth (Bischer) Booms. She married Frank Messing on September 3, 1929, at St. Anthony Catholic Church of Helena. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1977. She was a graduate of Track Elementary School near Helena. She was a life-long parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. She was a life-long member and one-time president of the Christian Mothers Sodality and an honorary member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle #608 of Bad Axe. Bernetta enjoyed her large family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a maker of many quilts. She loved to crochet and do embroidery. She loved to cook, bake and play euchre. She helped many people through their illness and death. She loved her flowers and gardening. She is survived by four sons, Gordon Messing and his wife, Julia, of Carsonville; Norman Messing and his wife, Eleanor, of Carsonville; Marcus Messing and his wife, Bernice, of Peck; and Daniel Messing and his wife, Diane, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; three daughters, Mildred Uhl and her husband, Walter, of Sun City Center, Florida; Sylvia Landon of Wellington, Ohio, and Elizabeth Outlaw and her husband, Norman, of Garden City; 45 grandchildren, 86 great-Grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Rosaline Messing of Harbor Beach, Margaret Maurer and her husband, Edward, of Harbor Beach; one brother: Leonard Booms of Harbor Beach; Alphansa Marottikal, daughter by sponsor through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Alice in 1937, and Arlene Ann Roggenbuck on March 24, 1980; one granddaughter, Lisa Messing on February 20, 1972; two great-granddaughters, Veronica Koenig on October 24, 1985, and Tonya Marie Kluger on July 18, 1997; four sisters: Clara Roggenbuck, Loretta Dropieski, Alma Messing, Emma Geiger; and five brothers: Roman, Arthur, Wilfred, Leroy and Bernard Booms. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2001, at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ruth with the Rev. Donald Eppenbrock, pastor of St. Denis parish in Lexington, officiating. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul cemetery.
