He was born April 10, 1921 at his life-long residence in Ruth to the late William T. and Mary (Emming) Messing. He was united in marriage to Donna Horton on June 24, 1944 at a Catholic church in Detroit. Clement was a graduate of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Elementary School in Ruth. He was a life long parishioner at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. He was a member and former Grand Knight of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council #3823. He retired from farming in 1987. He enjoyed mowing the lawn, playing euchre, traveling and visiting with family and friends. Clement is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna, of Ruth; five daughters: Jacqueline Schumacher and her fiancé, Ray Volmering, of Harbor Beach; Linda Siemen and her husband, Roland, of Harbor Beach; Doreen Bukoski and her husband, James, of Caro; Marlene Byrd and her husband, Ken, of Forestville; and Sandra Wasierski and her husband, Eugene, of Ubly; two sons: John Messing and his wife, Cathy, of Lexington; and Kevin Messing and his wife, Shelly, of Fenton; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; four step-great- grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Essenmacher of Harbor Beach, and Gladys Priemer of Ruth; one brother-in-law, Larry Horton and his wife, Ruth, of Grand Haven; and one sister-in-law, Madeline Marks of Missouri. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Messing; two sons-in-law, Thomas Schumacher and Richard Feury; five brothers: Wilfred, Charles, Norman, Robert and James; and three sisters: Cecilia Van Dalen, Genevieve Kosal and Margaret Kirsch. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Donald Eppenbrock will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 4 p.m. Thursday and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home.
