Messing Sr., 87, of Minden City, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital while under hospice care. He was born September 14, 1930 at home to the late Roman and Clara Kirsch. Ed served as a radio operator in the U.S. Army from June of 1952 until April of 1954, spending one year in Korea. Upon returning from the Army, he and Marjorie Booms were united in marriage on May 1, 1954 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena. Ed was a dairy farmer until 1986 when he started working on road construction. He later worked for Meissner farms. During the fall, Ed worked for Michigan Sugar in Ruth for 25 years. He was a former parishioner and usher of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville. Ed later became a parishioner at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Holy Apostles Parish in Ruth, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3823. He was a member of the Parisville VFW Post #5740 and served as the former secretary. He enjoyed NASCAR, listening to the polka party, animals of all kinds, watching RFD TV and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie; five sons, Edward (Robin) Messing Jr. of Sandusky, Philip (Renee) Messing of Opelika, Alabama, Roy (Julie) Messing of Aurora, Ohio, Clair (Michelle) Messing of Mt. Clemens, Gregory Messing of Sparta; three daughters, Christine (Paul) DeFord of Mason, Ruth (John) Kriewall of Harbor Beach; Jill Messing and her special friend John Davidson on Lansing; 19 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Herbert (Phyllis) Messing of Madison Heights, Jerome "Curly" (Judy) Messing of Ubly, Richard (Jane) Messing of Harbor Beach, Willard "Bill" (Diane) Messing of Minden City; seven sisters, Mary June Eidenberger of Sisters, Oregon, Joann (Gerald) Cleary of Minden City, Estell (Duke) Wagg of Folsom, California, Elaine (Eugene) Mazure of Ubly, Erma (Marvin) Cook of Ubly, Margie (Robert) Susalla of Clio, Janet (Jim) Thomas of Folsom, California; brothers-in- law, Gerald Booms of Ubly, Charles (Georgine) Booms of Pueblo, Colorado, Dennis (Joan) Booms of Wausaukee, Wisconsin, Harry (Verna) Booms of Harbor Beach; sisters-in-law, Sr. Evelyn Booms, IHM of Monroe, Joann Ginther of Bad Axe, Shirley Messing of Ruth. He was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Messing; brother-in-law Robert Eidenberger; sisters-in-law, Sheila Messing and Georgeann Booms. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Rev. Christopher Coman, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Memorials have been requested to Edward's family.
