On October 10, 1959, he married Elizabeth Marie Peplinski (the daughter of Matthew and Lucy (Zmich) Peplinski). He was stationed on the aircraft carriers Leyte and Midway, and served 6 weeks aboard the battleship Missouri after the end of the war. After the war, he pursued a career as an Ironworker in Detroit Local 25 for 40 years before retiring. Known as "Tiger" to his buddies, he worked on many bridges (including the Mackinac and Houghton- Hancock), high-rise buildings, and radio towers all over the country. Leo loved to hunt and fish when he was young. As a young man, he played minor league baseball for the Boston Braves in late 1940's. He also enjoyed playing golf and polka dancing. After retiring, he conducted extensive genealogical research on his family and traced the Osantowske's family lineage back to 1755.
