Veronica “Vi” Soper- Pionk, 87, of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 
2013, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe .


 
She was born on May 16, 1925, in Marienthal, Kansas, daughter of the late


Joseph and Pauline (Fuerch) Kessler.


She married Clarence Soper on July 21, 1961, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in 
death on March 31, 1984. She married Leo Pionk on June 12, 1988, in Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church in Bad Axe . He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1999.


Vi was employed at the General Hospital in Bad Axe until it closed.


She then worked for Patterson’s Cleaners for five years, and for Hamill 
Manufacturing for 10 years, retiring in 1980.


She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards and 
dancing.


She is survived by five step-sons, Wally (Nancy) Soper of Nisswa, Minn., Richard 
Soper of Pigeon, Elmer (Bernadine) Pionk of Roseville, Marvin (Shirley) Pionk of 
Florida, Gerald (Jeanette) Pionk of Sterling Heights; two step-daughters, 
Sharron Patterson of Lemon Grove, Calif., and Mary (Richard) Mallek of McHenry, 
Ill.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-
grandgrandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Red of Pigeon.


She was predeceased by one step-daughter, Sandra Buscemi; one step-daughter-in-
law, Madonna Soper; four brothers and six sisters.


A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, 
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Fr. Rob Howe, 
pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Kaufman Funeral 
Home in Bad Axe and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the 
church. A scripture service will be offered at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral 
home.
