Raymond Joseph Polega
June 24, 1928 - January 10, 2001
Raymond Polega, 72, of Dwight Township died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at 
Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.   He was born on June 24, 1928, in Dwight 
Township, son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Lasceski) Polega.  He and 
Viola Peyerk were married on June 30, 1948.  She preceded him in death on 
August 4, 1998.    Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in 
Dwight Township, the Ushers Club, the Holy Name Society and the Kinde Senior 
Citizens.   He enjoyed winning at cards and farming in Dwight Township.   

He is survived by his children, Kenneth Polega and his wife, Barbara, of 
Port Austin, Dale Polega and his wife, Lynn, of Bad Axe, Deborah Checkle and 
her husband, Michael, of Warren, Beverly Polega of Macomb Township, and 
Bradley Polega and his wife, Laura, of Unionville; grandchildren Jeremy, 
Laura and James Polega, Ryan, Cory and Shayna Polega, Adam and Aaron 
Checkle, and Laken Polega; his mother-in-law, Edna Peyerk of Bad Axe; in-
laws Clarence Peyerk and his wife, Lois, of Bad Axe, Genevieve Hupfer and 
her husband, Mathias, of Florida, Joseph Peyerk and his wife, Vivian, of 
Port Austin, Sylvester Peyerk and his wife, Margie, of Utica, Donna Geiger 
and her husband, Robert, of Texas, James Peyerk and his wife, Janis, of Cass 
City, Bernice Yockim and her husband, Don, of Warren, Janet Danielski and 
her husband, Tom, of Sterling Heights, Mary Meharg and her husband, Gary, of 
Yale, Suzanne Stanton and her husband, Dale, of Emmitt, Rita Jackson and her 
husband, Richard, of Bad Axe, Alvin Peyerk and his wife, Nancy, of Ruth, 
Barbara Rifenbark and her husband, Rick, 
of Bad Axe, David Peyerk of Bad Axe, and Magdeline Goretski of Filion.   He 
was preceded in death by his son, John; his brother-in-law, Eugene; and his 
stepbrother, Harry Goretski.   

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at St. 
Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight 
Township. The Rev. Mietek Oniskiewicz will officiate. Burial will follow in 
the church cemetery.   There will be a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Friday 
at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde.  Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. this 
evening, 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral
