The son of the late Edward and Esther (Glaza) Polega, Melvin found joy in assisting his father on the family farm, cultivating a lifelong love for farming. Meeting his beloved wife Marie E. (Bolda) Polega during his high school years at North Huron High School in Kinde, the two were united in marriage on June 20, 1970, at St. Edward's Church. Melvin dedicated 40 years to General Motors in the shipping and receiving department, retiring in 2005. A faithful Catholic, Melvin was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish. Melvin's green thumb was well-known, as he cherished summer gardening and took pride in cultivating fresh, healthy produce for his family and friends. Beyond his agricultural pursuits, Melvin was a member of various organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Future Farmers of America, and the Gera Tractor Club. Melvin was also known for his love of rebuilding and restoring countless antique tractors. Family always came first with Melvin; he will forever be remembered for his unwavering love of his three children, and constant support and spoiling of his grandchildren. His legacy will forever live on. To carry on his legacy, Melvin leaves the love of his life, his soulmate of 53 years, Marie Polega; three children, Ed (Amanda) Polega, Melissa Ososki (Scott Jensen), and Pamela (Jason) Perkins. He was the most loving and supportive "JahJah" of Jayden, Macy, and Carson Perkins; Wyatt, Nash, and Elise Ososki, and Evan and Logan Polega. Survivors also include his sister, Tina (John) Baker; brother-in-law, Charles (Joann) Bolda, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends in the Thumb, who knew him as "Clarence." In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Polega; sister, Jeanette Kubacki, and brothers-in-law, Harry Wisneski, Henry Kubacki, Alan Bolda, and Kenneth Bolda. Melvin's family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., Essexville, Michigan 48732. On Friday, March 15, 2024, Melvin will be taken to Corpus Christi Parish (Holy Trinity Church), 1008 S. Wenona St., Bay City, Michigan 48706, where visiting will continue from 9:30 AM until Melvin's 10:30 AM Funeral Mass. The Rite of Committal will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to The American Cancer Society. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the hospice team Covenant VNA for their compassionate care.
