Private Riffel left Bad Axe about 18 months ago to live in Saginaw. He was born April 15, 1926. He attended school here. He is survived by his parents, five brothers, Bruce, Richard, George, Thomas and Larry and two sisters Beverly and Mary Agnes Riffel, all of Saginaw. 2nd article Pvt James L Riffel Killed In Germany Mr. & Mrs. Charles Riffel, Saginaw, former Bad Axe residents, received word from the War Dept last week that their son, Pvt James L Riffel, had been killed in action in Germany on Feb 27. "Jim", as was known by the boys in Bad Axe high school, was 18 years old and went into the service in Aug 1944. After 16 weeks of infantry training, he was sent overseas. He had only a 5 day furlough before being sent overseas in Jan of this year. Pvt Riffel was the oldest of 8 children. The Riffel family lived in Bad Axe until about a year ago. Plans are underway for a memorial service to be held in Saginaw.
