Mr. Bernard Paul Roberts, 69, of Harbor Beach, passed away peacefully with his 
family by his side on Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010 at the Huron County 
Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a long illness.

He was born September 5, 1940 in Rapson, to the late Jacob and Mary (Siemen) 
Roberts.  He was united in marriage to Doris Volmering on July 13, 1963 at SS. 
Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  Bernie was a graduate of Our Lady of 
Lake Huron Catholic School.  He was also a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lake 
Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach.  He worked as an assembler at Drive All 
Manufacturing for 27 years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 
family.  He also loved gardening with his Ford tractor, bird watching, deer 
hunting, playing euchre, mowing lawn with his John Deere, garage sales and the 
Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed selling his sweet corn and pumpkins to his 
customers. His grandsons loved coming to Grandpa’s for tractor rides and 
looking at his pumpkins.

Bernard is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Doris of Harbor Beach; his 
children, Karen (Jack) Jensen of Pigeon, Kathy (Gary) Bauer of Charlotte, Kari 
(Ed) Tucker of Frankenmuth and Bernie Jr. (Jennifer) of Ruth; four 
grandchildren, Ben and Owen Tucker and Nathan and Jacob Bauer; his siblings, 
Mary (Richard) Hartman of Granger, Indiana, Shirley Booms of Harbor Beach, 
Bernice Messing of Peck, June Pawlowski of Harbor Beach, Joyce (Harold) 
Pleiness of Port Hope, Agnes (Joe) Petruck of Arkansas and Gladys (Joe) Page of 
Davison; and his in-laws, Leona Roberts of Harbor Beach, Jerome (Eileen) 
Volmering of Harbor Beach, Raymond (Jackie) Volmering of Ruth, Lorraine 
(Stanley) Peruski of Ubly and Dian Volmering of Harbor Beach.  He was preceded 
in death by an infant son, Robert Paul, in 1965; three brothers, James, Vincent 
and Jerome Roberts; three sisters, Anna Winkel, Genevieve Dahlke and Rosie 
Anstett; one brother-in-law, Eugene Volmering; and one sister-in-law, Carol 
Volmering.

The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Our Lady of Lake 
Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. The Rev. William Spencer, pastor, will 
officiate. Burial will be in the SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ruth.  
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral 
Home in Ubly and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. There will be a 
parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.  Memorials 
are requested to the family discretionary fund.
