Pvt. Ralph Roberts, is missing in action in Luxembourg. Private Roberts was inducted into the Army in May, 1944, and trained at Camp Fannin. Tex. Ralph Elmer Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Roberts, who was previously reported missing in action, has been listed as killed in action January 21 in Luxembourg. He is survived by his parents, five sisters, Miss Edna Roberts, Saginaw; Arline, Joanna and Mary Ann, of Ruth, and two brothers, Levern and Leland, of Ruth. Private Roberts was born April 11, 1925. and entered the Army May 10, 1944. He trained at Camp Fennis. Tex., and Fort Meade. Md., and went overseas Oct. 6, 1944. Ralph Elmer Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Roberts, Ruth, will be held Saturday in SS Peter and Paul's Catholic church. Private Roberts was killed in action in Luxembourg January 21. Previously he was reported as missing in action. He was born April 11, 1925, and entered the Army May 10, 1944. After training at Camp Fennis. Texas, and Fort Meade, Md., he went overseas October 6, 1944. Published Times Herald (Port Huron, Michigan) Thursday March 15, 1945. Hero To Return, Comrade To Assist In Last Rites Ruth, April 22 - The remains of Pfc. Ralph E., Roberts, 19, killed in action Jan. 21, 1945, with Jan. 21, 1945, with the 80th Infantry Division in Luxembourg, will arrive Saturday at the home of his father, August Roberts. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church. Rev. Frank W. Kaufmann will officiate. The American Legion post of Minden City will conduct military burial rites in the church cemetery. Sgt. Lavern Schock, a boyhood playmate, who was wounded in the same battle in which Private Roberts was killed, will be one of the pallbearers at the funeral Monday. Private Roberts, born April 11, 1925, in Sherman Township, spent his boyhood here and entered the Army May 10, 1944. Sergeant Shock also entered the Army at the same time. They trained at Camp Fannin, Texas and Fort Meade, Maryland, before going overseas October 6, 1944. Private Roberts and Sergeant Schock went into action together and were engaged in the same battle January 21, 1945. Sergeant Schock was wounded and Private Roberts stopped to give him first aid before advancing further. A few minutes later, Private Roberts was killed. Sergeant Schock recovered from his wounds and has returned home. Private Roberts is survived by his father, five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Czolgosz, Saginaw; Mrs. Lloyd DesJardins, Port Huron, and Misses Delores, Joan and Mary Ann Roberts, all of Ruth; two brothers, Lavern and Leland Roberts, both of Ruth, and his grandfather, Frank Trepkowski, Bay City. His mother, Mrs. Mary Ann (Trepkowski) Roberts, died October 24, 1948. She had been notified that her son's remains were being brought home.
