Orvel was born in Harbor Beach, Michigan, on May 31, 1931 to Leo and Clara Roggenbuck. On August 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Lucille Taschner at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, having enjoyed 59 years of marriage. He was a lifetime farmer having worked at home with his family following graduation from East Huron Country School. In 1951, he joined his brothers Charles and Vincent in a partnership that lasted more than 50 years on the farm in Snover. In later years he farmed together with his son, Les, until retirement. Orvel was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sandusky, Michigan where he was a Eucharistic Minister for Mass and for the homebound, lector, parish council member, Saginaw Diocesan Pastoral Council, and religious education teacher. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Snover Coop Elevator Board president, Moore Township Zoning Board, Croswell Sugar Beet Growers Board, Sanilac County Farm Bureau Board, Sanilac County Right to Life Board, and 4-H leader. He is survived by his wife, Lucy; children, Sandra (Arnold) Gillesse, Barbara (Daniel) Reyner, Margaret (Edward) Lawler, Leslie (Elizabeth) Roggenbuck, Mary Jo (Russell) Dondlinger, Julie (Stephen) Rick, Jennifer Caplinger, and Dallas Roggenbuck; grandchildren, David Ryan, Colleen Ryan, Brenton Reyner, Thomas (Anna) Lawler, Kurtis (Kristen) Lawler, Abbey (Moeti) Moeti, Lauren (Caleb) Marsh, Charlene Dondlinger, Taylor Dondlinger, Olivia Rick, Ellen Rick, Kyle Rick, Jackson Caplinger; step grandchildren, Eric Ryan, Laura Gillesse, Jessica (Dan) Eret, Joel Gillesse, Heather (Noel) Crydeman, Nathan (Stephanie) Callahan, and Megaera Terteling; great grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, Mackenzie, and Micheal Lawler; step great grandchildren. Beau, August, and Jules Crydeman, Logan and Olivia Ryan. He is also survived by siblings, Edna Roth, Harry Roggenbuck, Earl Roggenbuck, and Anita Plummer. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Clara Roggenbuck; and siblings, Jerome, Charles, Vincent, Carl, and Glenn Roggenbuck, Aletha Romzek, Monica DeYoung, Lula Clark, and Rebecca Groll. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, December 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sandusky, Michigan. Visitation was at Hacker Funeral Parlors on Friday, December 27 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services. Rosary service was held at 6:00 p.m. and a prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. on December 27th at the funeral home. Published Minden City Herald Thursday January 2, 2020.
