Romzek, 81, of Ruth passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Ernestine was born on November 29, 1926 in Sigel Township, where she resided her whole life, to the late Peter and Rose (Kubacki) Smaglinski. She married Irvin J. Romzek on June 14, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2007. Ernestine attended a rural school until the eighth grade. She worked in a factory in Detroit during World War II. Ernestine then returned to the family farm for the rest of her life. She was a life long member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. Ernestine always enjoyed her flower garden, watching hummingbirds, hunting for morel mushrooms and picking agate stones at Lake Superior. She was a gardener and naturalist. Ernestine was proficient at crocheting, knitting, embroidery, quilting, basket weaving, sewing and ceramics. She also liked to play cards and enjoyed bingo, especially at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Ernestine was the best ma and grandma in the whole world. Ernestine is survived by six sons, Lt. Colonel retired from the U.S. Air Force, Arthur (Marlene) Romzek of Tawas City, Daniel (Susan) Romzek of Ruth, Michael (Margaret) Romzek of Cadillac, Isadore (Marian) Romzek of Harbor Beach, Raphael (Catherine) Romzek of Traverse City, Timothy (Marlene) Romzek of Ubly; one daughter, Marie (Paul) Heilig of Minden City; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Smaglinski and his wife, Susan, of Harbor Beach; two sisters, Edwina Lackowski of Bad Axe, Theresa McElgunn and her husband, Robert, of Emmett; four brothers-in-law, John Lawrence of Saginaw, Eugene (Evelyn) Romzek of Ubly, George (Charlotte) Romzek of Sandusky, David (Gerri) Romzek of Traverse City; five sisters-in-law, Mary Knoll of Caro, Agnes (William) Hool of Lupton, Juliann Steele of Warren, Dorothy (David) Rinke of Capac, Susan Romzek of Washington state. Ernestine was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Monzo and Gertrude Lawrence; five brothers, Peter, Anthony, Joseph, Floyd and Valentine Smaglinski; four brothers-in-law, Ed Lackowski, Ed Monzo, Raymond and Benedict Romzek; one sister-in-law, Irene Shevokas. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Peter Nwokoye, pastor of St. Mary’s and the Rev. Thomas McNamara will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church only. There will be a rosary at 4 p.m. on Monday by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality and a parish vigil service at 8 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary fund or the donor’s choice.
