Romzek September 6, 1926 – November 9, 2007 Irvin J. “Irv” Romzek, founder of the Romzek Farm and Town Insurance Agency in Bad Axe, 81, of Ruth passed away Friday morning, November 9, 2007 at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Irvin was born on September 6, 1926 in Sigel Township to the late George and Cecilia (Richard) Romzek. He married Ernestine Smaglinski on June 14, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Irvin was a graduate of the Sigel Country School and Our Lady of Lake Huron. He attended Michigan Tech University through the Army Air Corp program. He served in World War II in the European Theatre. Irvin was a dairy farmer from 1947 to 1958. In 1959 Irvin started the Romzek Farm and Town Insurance Agency of Bad Axe, retiring in 1991 after 32 years. He was a member of the Huron County Independent Insurance Association. Irvin was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was a member of the parish council, the men’s club, a lector and a member of the new church building committee. He established the physical education program at St. Mary’s Catholic School and was a coach for many years. Irvin was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council 3823 and the Parisville VFW Post No. 5740. He was a 4-H leader for the St. Isadore 4-H Club. Irvin enjoyed farming, the woods, playing cards, fishing, gardening, hunting, playing the harmonica and accordion, and visiting with family and friends. Irvin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ernestine of Ruth; six sons, Arthur (Marlene) Romzek of Tawas City, Daniel (Susan) Romzek of Ruth, Michael (Margaret) Romzek of Bad Axe, Isadore (Marian) Romzek of Ubly; one daughter Marie (Paul) Heilig of Minder City; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene (Evelyn) Romzek of Ubly, George (Charlotte) Romzek of Sandusky, David (Gerri) Romzek of Traverse City; four sisters, Mary Knoll of Caro, Agnes (William) Hool of Lupton, Juliann Steele of Warren, Dorothy (David) Rinke of Capac; three sisters-in-law, Susan Romzek of Anchorage, Alaska, Edna Lackowski of Bad Axe, Theresa McElgunn and her husband, Robert of Emmett; one brother-in-law, Bernard Smaglinski and his wife Susan or Harbor Beach. Irvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Benedict Romzek; one sister, Irene Shevokas. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. today , November 12, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Jerzy Dobosz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Parisville VFW Post No. 5740. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund of the Donor’s Choice.
