Cass was born on March 4, 1918, in Parisville to the late Francis "Frank" and Rose (Pyrek) Schefka. He married Frances Pfaff on September 14, 1940, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1997. Cass was a graduate of the Sigel Country School #2. He farmed from 1932 to 1955. He began working for Zinger Funeral Home in Ubly for 26 years from 1955 to 1981 when it became Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. He worked at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home for 20 years from 1981 to 2001. He moved to Ubly in 1963. He was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was a member of the Men's Club and the Cemetery Committee. He was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council #3823. He was the Grand Marshall for the 2004 Ubly Homecoming Parade. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Cass is survived by one son, Bernard Schefka and his wife, Kay, of Utica; four daughters, Mary Anna Longuski and her husband, Marv, of Peck, Delphine Czewski and her husband, Jim, of Ubly, Jean Grifka and her husband, Tony, of Ubly, Elaine Briolat and her husband, Virg, of Ubly; 10 grandchildren, Michael Schefka and his wife, Shelly, of Shelby Township, Stephen Schefka of Lansing, John Schefka and his wife, Joann, of Sterling Heights, Andrew Longuski and his wife, Kelly, of Midland, Eric Longuski and his wife, Tammy, of China Township, Vicki Lynn VanConant and her husband, Jason, of Rosebush, Kristen Czewski of Sterling Heights, Scott Czewski and his wife, Tammy, of Lansing, James Czewski of Troy, Rachel Czewski of Anaheim, California; four step-grandchildren, Brenda Wilfong and her husband, Rick, of Snover, Nancy Doerr and her husband, Dale, of Snover, Jodi Davis and her husband, Chris, of Ubly, Daryl Grifka of Guin, Alabama; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother-in- law, Earl Pfaff and his wife, Doris, of Ruth. Cass was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Oberski and her husband, Roman. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Andrzej Boroch, pastor, and the Rev. Stanley Surman, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. There will be a parish vigil service at 3 p.m. on Sunday. There also will be a joint rosary at 7 p.m. on Sunday by the Ruth Knights of Columbus and the St. Mary Men's Club. Memorials requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
